About Supervision

Sed quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

(But who will care and protect the carers?)

Juvenal, Satires, 6, 1:347

The purpose of supervision is to provide support to people in their professional roles. This includes assisting them in learning from their experiences, progressing in their competency and ensuring quality service to their clients.

Supervision is used in counselling and many other professions where workers are engaged in working with people. It involves the practitioner meeting regularly with a person who has training in the skills of supervision to discuss case work and/or other professional issues in a structured way.

As a supervisor I work collaboratively with you to support you in your role and facilitate reflection on professional practice. As a supervisee you take responsibility for determining what is discussed during supervision sessions. I provide a safe and confidential environment, and facilitate the process for reflection on practice, explore concerns and celebrate successes. Prior to, or at the first appointment, we will complete a supervision contract that will reflect the mutual agreement to commence supervision and clarify responsibilities.
